Many events and festivals are celebrated in Singapore every year. Chinese people take special part in their traditional celebrations such as New Year celebrations and many other events. In Singapore people of different cultural groups and different ethnicities celebrate different sorts of events according to their culture and traditions. Singaporean celebrates every month of the year with different cultural events. Chinese people celebrate each affair as their religious obligation. Every event brings lots of fun and excitement as well as splendor and ceremonial rituals that every person takes good part in enjoyment and fun. Singapore is also a business city and tourists love to visit the city during celebrations. Hotels in Singapore and restaurants offer attractive packages during festivals and religious events.
Celebrations start in first month of the year with a Hindu festival “Thaipusam”. In this event Hindus, mostly men walk for about three kilo meters from Sri Srinivasa perumal temple to Sri thndayuthapani temple while carrying a “Kavadi” on their heads. In February very important and most colorful occasion is enjoyed by Singaporeans. The festival is based on the postulation of the Chinese Zodiac symbol of the year. In the event symbols of new year is displayed everywhere and traditional people lighten the streets. In this event shopping and firework are the most interesting things; there are different stalls in festival featuring arts. Crafts, Chinese calligraphy and many other traditional things. Most interesting and most enjoyable event is Singapore is the celebrations of Chinese New Year. Chinese people burn their blood to make this event a surprise in front of the world. Festivities last for at least 15 days and are held during January and February. These days are most attractive days for tourists and visitors.
Chinese parade is largest parade in Singapore. Carnivals, floats, dancers, gymnasts and acrobats are the highlights of this event. Motor racing is also a fun in the city. Annual Singapore grand prix is a major motor race of FIA formula one world championship. Races and other side exhibitions attract huge number of tourists in Singapore. In Qing Ming festival many devotees visit the temples to offers prayers to their predecessors. In the month of April a festival is celebrated by physical sports such as swimming, cycle racing and other these sorts of sports. Buddhists celebrate the Vesak day in May visiting temples. Dragon boat racing is another traditional event in Singapore in which men powered boats are used in racing.
Celebrations continue and in the month of August festival of Hungry Ghost is held. This festival is dedicated to spirits and is considered an inauspicious time. No important decisions are taken during these days. During this festival one should visit Chinatown. In September Monocake festival is held in the remembrance of Shu Yuan Zhang. And during December famous Singapore marathon is held, in this race participants take part from all over the world. Then Christmas is another big event in city. After Christmas year ends and Chinese people gets ready for New Year celebrations.
